A Grand Feature on Jeffrey’s — Austin’s Timeless Fine‑Dining Gem

The Story and Setting

Image

Jeffrey’s first opened its doors in 1975 in the charming Clarksville neighborhood, setting the stage as one of Austin’s original chef-driven restaurants. Owned by Ron & Peggy Weiss and Jeff Weinberger, it began as a modest café before re-emerging in 2012 under the McGuire Moorman Lambert (MML) Hospitality group and Executive Chef Mark McCain.

After a thoughtful renovation in 2013, Jeffrey’s retained its historic cottage charm—complete with wood-paneled dining rooms, a wine cellar, and cozy bar/lounge areas—while adding contemporary touches to appeal to a discerning clientele.

Today, its elegant interior preserves the “quiet luxury” feel while offering three distinct dining experiences: the main room, the Napoleon Room, and The Apartment for more intimate occasions

The Menu & Signature Offerings

Jeffrey’s menu artfully bridges French‑American classics and wood-fired, dry-aged steaks, showcasing carefully sourced USDA prime and Wagyu cuts grilled to perfection. From highlights like crispy Gulf oysters, Deviled eggs with truffle, Pekin duck breast “au poivre”, to the legendary Niman Ranch ribeye and Mishima Reserve strip — this is dining elevated.

Dessert lovers convene for creations like chocolate soufflé, sticky toffee pudding, and classic Baked Alaska, all crafted by their celebrated pastry team. The wine list, one of Texas’ deepest, has earned Wine Spectator awards and complements every dish beautifully

Dang, dude. This place was everything the hype surrounding it says it is as an "Austin staple." Food. Amazing. Service. Incredible. Atmosphere. Classy meets trendy. Perfect for special occasions or happy hours. From the start, the bread (pop overs) are remarkable - we were tempted to skip due to "eating healthier", but are so glad we didn't as the soft flakiness paired with the ricotta butter is simply a "can't miss." The cocktails were fantastic with a wide array of spirits to choose from as well and a whole iPad's worth of wine to browse through. Horsd'oeuvres (all of the ones we had) were another set of "can't go wrongs" as each small bite (meant for 1-2 peeps with a bite each) were so tasty. We tried 3 different ones - the deviled eggs, crab beignets, and ham & cheese croquettes - wow. Just wow. Finally, the entrees were soooo worth the price of admission. We enjoyed a wonderful 12 oz wagyu steak (don't ask me which as there's a great selection to choose from) and the Pekin duck breast. Both were some of the best eats we had to celebrate our special anniversary evening - which, side note, they make you feel so special with little surprises here and there. Props to Harold on being awesome and giving awesome recs. He was equally professional as was both charming and knowledgeable. All in all, Jeffrey's quickly went to the top of our atx eating lists and is one you should absolutely have on your radar.Dang, dude. I’m a Houston partisan and it is very difficult to admit this but if I was given a choice to eat anywhere in the state, it would be here. The service is so professional. Anything you want, however you want it, they are happy to accommodate. For a table of 4, we decided to split a bunch of apps and then a sliced up porterhouse. It was perfect for the table. Pro tip: ask for au poivre sauce for the steak. So good. It’s a difficult reservation, need to plan a couple of weeks in advance, but so well worth it.I’m a Houston partisan and it is very difficult to admit this but if I was given a...
